How to Support Grief Encounter in 2022

How to Support Grief Encounter in 2022

Our charity partnership with Grief Encounter is incredibly important to us. The whole team is extremely proud to fundraise for this amazing charity, and every year we aim to raise as much money as possible to support it.

Last year, we raised £3,285 for Grief Encounter. These vital funds could be the equivalent of:

  • 65 hours of 1:1 counselling or;
  • 126 calls to the grieftalk helpline or;
  • 32 Grief Relief Kits with resources, materials and tools sent out to bereaved children across the UK

Grief Encounter

Seeing the tangible results of fundraising is an enormous boost. This year, throughout September, we’ll be donating 10% of profits from our Memorial Jewellery ranges to Grief Encounter (including the Memorial Fingerprints, Memorial Ashes Jewellery and Self-Fill Ashes ranges).

To raise awareness of our fundraising efforts, any customer who orders a piece of jewellery from the memorial range throughout September will receive a card in their order that tells them where the donated money is going and how it will help. You can find out more about this here

Memorial Jewellery

Hand on Heart managing director, Amanda Dixon, said: “We have found that over the last few years, throughout the Covid pandemic in particular, Memorial Keepsake jewellery has increased in popularity as a way to keep your loved ones close and as a tangible way of helping to deal with loss and grief.”

She added: “We truly believe that in business and in life, we all have a role to play to help others. We feel so grateful that doing what we love allows us to support others, and we’re delighted to be able to support such a wonderful charity.”

Grief Encounter is a phenomenal charity that does amazing work in supporting bereaved children and young people. Donations are essential to Grief Encounter’s current and future work. With no government funding available, the charity relies solely on private donations to fund its £1.3 million running costs, supporting more than 6,500 individuals annually. We’re proud to support Grief Encounter as our charity partner, and we’ve previously been asked by our lovely customers how they can get involved too, which is absolutely fantastic!

There are a few ways you could get involved in fundraising. Perhaps you want to do it with your family, or a group of friends or colleagues – however you’d like to support the charity, your incredible support will be completely appreciated. So, we thought we’d feature a few ideas too!

Fancy a challenge? There are some brilliant planned events and opportunities coming up! Or you could plan your own fundraising initiative with some ideas that work well any time of the year.

The Great Bristol Run, 25th September

The Great Bristol run is an action-packed South West running event. The route takes in the vibrant waterfront, follows the beautiful Avon Gorge and passes iconic landmarks such as the Clifton Suspension Bridge. Entries for the half marathon, 10k, and Family Run are now open, and there is no minimum fundraising target.

Royal Parks Half Marathon, 9th October
Join #TeamGriefEncounter for this iconic half marathon through four of London’s most beautiful Royal Parks, and right past Buckingham palace. With incredible energy on the day from live music, drummers and cheering crowds, it’s a fantastic run and Grief Encounter would love to see you there.

Skydiving, (2022 dates available on request)

Are you a thrill seeker looking to do something daring for charity? With this ultimate challenge, you will jump from 10,000ft above the earth and fall through the air at 125mph. This adrenaline-filled challenge will couldn’t be easier as you can be strapped to your qualified and experienced instructor who does all the hard work for you. All you have to do is take in the sights knowing you’re doing something extraordinary to help Grief Encounter families.

Christmas Carol-A-Thon, December

Why not organise a carol-a-thon in a local train or tube station and take on a marathon of carols? Sign up colleagues, friends and families to sing in groups throughout the day to raise some cheer and donations in aid of Grief Encounter.

Mini Mile, any time

Plan a Mini Mile using the Grief Encounter guide and run, hop, skip or run a mile to raise funds. Perhaps you could do it in fancy dress for some extra entertainment value?

Virtual event, any time

Organise a virtual event and ask everyone to buy a virtual raffle ticket to win a prize! You could utilise your skills too – perhaps you’re a keen crafter and could host an online workshop? Or arrange a cookery demonstration and invite friends on Zoom to cook along? The possibilities are endless and great fun.

Coffee morning, any time

Host an in-person or virtual coffee morning with UK and/or international friends to join you for coffee and cakes – in return for a donation to Grief Encounter!
