Ideas for Engraving

A personalised piece of jewellery is a beautiful gift for someone special. However, we understand that deciding exactly how to personalise something can feel like a lot of pressure! Personalisation and message wording are both queries that our customer service team are asked about frequently, so please don’t think you’re alone if you’re unsure of what to include.

In this blog, we thought we’d explore ideas that our customers have really enjoyed looking at when they’ve been trying to decide how to personalise a piece for somebody special. Depending on your relationship with them and what occasion the jewellery will mark or celebrate, there are many different ways that personalisation can work beautifully. Here are just a few of our favourites…

  • Date of birth – to celebrate a birthday, especially if it’s a big one!
  • Special birthdays of others – for example, children or grandchildren.
  • Anniversary – perhaps to mark the day you met or another special anniversary.
  • Wedding day – of course, this is a very special date for married couples.
  • Gotcha Day – this is a popular one for pets!

  • The name of the recipient.
  • Their initials.
  • A nickname.
  • A unique in-joke nickname, so they’ll always know exactly who it’s from!
  • Different words and phrases for who they are to you. For example, for ‘Mother’ there’s: Mum, Mummy, Ma, Mamma, Mama Bear and Mummy Bear – to name just a few! The same with ‘Father’: Dad, Daddy, Pops, Pa, etc.
  • Kennel Club Name – this is a special one for pet jewellery and works beautifully with our pawprint collection.

  • A particular word or location, or date or memory. Don’t worry if it sounds a little strange to anyone else not in on the joke – it’s a lovely sentiment between the two of you! And there’s certainly no judgement from our design team; we love nods to special relationships like this.
  • Cheeky in-jokes, for example, “I’m glad I swiped right.”

Engraved Handwriting Heart Necklace

  • The name of a country, a city, a landmark, or a building.
  • Co-ordinates.
  • A full address.
  • Something simple but specific, like ‘Our Couch,’ or ‘Our Walk’ or ‘Our Spot.’

  • Love messages: ‘I Love You,’ ‘I Heart You,’ ‘Love you forever,’ ‘All my love,’ ‘Love you to the moon and stars,’ ‘You have my heart.’
  • Number one parent: ‘You’re my No.1,’ ‘#1 Mum,’ ‘Best mum in the world,’ ‘Super Dad,’ ‘My superhero.’
  • New mum and mum to be: ‘New Mummy,’ ‘Mama to be,’ ‘First Mother’s Day.’
  • Best friends: ‘Friends forever,’ ‘BFFs,’ ‘I treasure our friendship,’ ‘Sister from another mister.’

Personalised Jewellery

  • “You had me at Hello.” (Jerry McGuire)
  • “We were together. I forget the rest.” (Walt Whitman)
  • “My first. My last. My everything.” (Barry White)
  • “You to me are everything.” (The Real Thing)
  • “At last.” (Etta James)
  • “You are the sunshine of my life.” (Stevie Wonder)
  • Or you could even select a meaningful line from a song, a movie, or a book – for a beautiful message that’s unique to your relationship together.

  • Words such as: ‘Dream,’ ‘Blessed,’ ‘Happy,’ ‘Positivity,’ and ‘Grow.’
  • Phrases such as: ‘This girl can,’ ‘I can, and I will,’ ‘Laugh and be happy,’ ‘If you can dream it, you can do it.’

 Handwriting Heart Necklace

  • We can add reverse messages in our own font to many of our designs at no extra cost (if available on a design, this option is given when placing an order).
  • We can also add a message in your loved one’s true handwriting if you would prefer, making the piece extra special. There is a charge for this service, and it’s only available on certain pieces. We have found this option is very popular on memorial fingerprint pieces.
  • This is a unique and popular idea for personalisation. All we need is a clear photo of the handwriting that you would like to use (this can be from a letter or card).
  • We do not need the ‘exact’ message to replicate. As long as we have all the characters needed, our talented design team can create a message of your choosing. For example, we have even used a photo of an address book to create the message: ‘Love you, Dad x’ on the reverse of a memorial necklace.

The possibilities are endless when it comes to jewellery personalisation! We hope this blog of ideas has helped, but if you’re still stuck for inspiration, don’t worry. You can always contact our friendly design team, who will be able to answer any queries and offer further advice.
